' The Voluntary Service is more than a philosophy, a treaty, or a historical institution. It is the embodiment of a worldwide belief that human life and dignity are worthy of respect and protection from the ravages of man and nature. It is a belief that is made real every day by the actions of skilled and trained people who are motivated by a deep personal desire to help others without regard for their own material gain.'

RC / RC NETWORK' SOUTH ASIA REGIONAL BRANCH'

RC / RC NETWORK OF BPI TRAINERS
A comprehensive and innovative Training of Trainers Workshop on BPI (Better Programming Initiative) methodology and its effectiveness in Aid Programming was conducted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and Nepal Red Cross Society from 9th to 19th December 2002 at Katmandu, Nepal. The objectives of the workshop was to create a network of BPI facilitators comprising National Societies and Federation Staff in the South Asia region and to motivate the involvement and commitment of donor national societies with regards to BPI for further bilateral initiatives. A participatory approach and new training techniques were demonstrated during the whole workshop to further enhance the skills of the participants in conducting effective training programs. The participants had to conduct a one, day BPI workshop for the NHQ staff of Nepal' Red Cross at the end of the training workshop to demonstrate their individual and teamwork skills. Two participants from each National Society from the South Asia region attended the workshop. Dr. Munawar Sher Khan and Mr. Imran Butt from PRCS were selected to attend the workshop. As qualified trainers they now propose to start an awareness of BPI methodology, by including a short BPI presentation in all their ongoing training courses organized by IFRC and to develop a pool of PRCS BPI trainers at Provincial and District levels.
