CELEBRATING AND PROMOTING'

CELEBRATING HUMANITY
At the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Humanity is a sentiment underlying all functions, programmes and initiatives.

PRCS celebrated this sentiment all through the month of May commemorating the Birth of the first ever humanitarian organisation & movement in 1863, the birth ofthe Red Cross/ Red Crescent Movement

A series of events were organised at the National Headquarters and throughout the Provincial Branches. The celebration kicked off with a debate competition organised at the National Headquarters with participants presenting arguments for and against the 'Unbeatable Power of Humanity'. In total 4 schools from Islamabad took the invitation to debate. As the results came in, the votes for the Power of Humanity weighed heavy and Mr. M. Haider of St. Mary's Academy took home the winners trophy in favour of the notion.

Special Media coverage was also arranged in the form of a 30 minute interview in PTV's morning transmission. Secretary General PRCS and another PRCS officer spoke enthusiastically about the organisation and its various activities and programmes.
In Karachi, the Provincial Headquarters appealed for donations on a billboard near the city office. Soon following, an Emblem Campaign was launched at the Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi inviting stakeholders to understand and share the burden ofthe Red Cross/Red Crescent Emblem protection.

InAJ&K Branch, a declamation contest in Urdu was organised on 'Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement and our responsibilities' and was complimented with a 'Peace' Walk. Punjab Provincial Branch also remained busy with a painting and declamation contest.
A nationwide art competition was organised separately at the National Headquarters and in each of the Provincial Headquarters. Children from public and private schools all over Pakistan contested in two categories. Age groups 7-11 displayed their artistic talents on 'Helping others is Happiness' while category 12-15 came up with diversified impressions on' Volunteer For Humanity'. Around 212 entries were collected in total. All events were attended by notables and covered widely by the media.

The final event of the month was a National Art Exhibition organised at Marriott Hotel. Entries from the art competition were up for display showing diversity of medium, expression and thought. The pleasant explosion of colour showed most importantly how the topics had moved creative young minds to produce touching impressions on the subject of Humanity. PRCS Secretary General recounted the Birth of the Movement for the children and elaborated the key activities of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society during crisis and peace.

The Chief Guest Ms. Ayla Malik, Member of the National Assembly complimented PRCS for its tireless efforts in alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable under trying socio-economic conditions. She also appreciated the idea of involving the children and thereby sensitising them to the issues of Humanity.
