In line with its Humanitarian Mandate, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society has mobilized its resources to contribute towards the relief efforts in the region, in the wake of tragic natural disaster. The Pakistan Red Crescent Society has undertaken the following actions: a) First consignment of relief stores consisting of Tents, Blankets and Food items has been handed over to the High commissioner of Sri Lanka on 30th December 2004. The same will be dispatched to Sri Lanka along with the consignment sent by the Government of Pakistan. b) A second consignment of relief goods has been handed over to the Indonesian Ambassador on January 4, 2005. The same will be dispatched along with the consignments being sent by the Government of Pakistan. c) The provincial PRCS branches have been asked to contribute by way of donations in cash and kind, which will be sent in subsequent consignments. d) A Media Campaign for the collection of donation in cash and kind has been launched at the National and the provincial level. For this purpose, PRCS has set up relief camps in Islamabad and other major cities. e) PRCS plans to send a medical team consisting of doctors and paramedics along with medicines to the disaster affected countries. The team will be headed by the Director Operation, PRCS National Headquarters. The team is on the standby and will be dispatched as and when needed.
