Afghan's dream comes true with PRCS

It was a dream come true for 22-year-old Ahmad Sayyar when after a painful four years of segregation, he met his family with which he had lost contact during their migration to Iran. The story of the ill-fated family, now happy, goes that after Ahmad Sayyar's father died of cardiac arrest, the family decided to leave Afghanistan for the better prospects, as he was their sole earning hand. They were shocked over the death of their father, who could not get better treatment for his heart problem due to lack of medical facilities in their war-torn motherland, then the family left for Iran with the hope for best. According to Sayyar, on reaching Iran the police arrested and deported him. "It was a double shock - father's death and separation from family," he recalled. The things got worse for me as I knew nothing about my family afterwards despite the fact that I again managed to enter Iran to trace out my family, but in vain. Sayyar said he came back to Afghanistan but it was difficult for him to live there due to severe financial crisis. "Finally, I came to Pakistan and started work with an Afghan restaurant. No knowledge of Urdu and English languages was a constant worry for me as I could not interact with most of people properly," he said of his agony days. But, thank God, I got a clue from one of my friends that Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has a Tracing Department that would happily try to end my long agony. "I soon visited the PRCS National Headquarters in Islamabad, and filed a request to trace out my family," Sayyar said, adding that after a long time I felt relaxed to find someone giving so much attention to my request. The PRCS Tracing Department investigated the case and after hectic efforts it managed to establish contact with Ahmed Sayyar's family in Australia. After a telephonic conversation with his family, courtesy PRCS, Sayyar said: "Today is the happiest day of my life thanks to Pakistan Red Crescent Society that played a key role in my family reunion." The PRCS Tracing Department is efficiently working to establish contact for those who lost contact with their families due to wars or conflicts, and to provide the victims a channel of communication with the help of International Committee of Red Cross and worldwide network of National Societies. .
