Pakistan Red Crescent Society Tuesday handed over a consignment of relief goods to Indonesian Ambassador Anwar Santoso for Tsunamis disaster that killed over one lakh and affected millions of people in Indonesia.
The PRCS Chairman, Lt Gen. (Retd) Jhan Dad Khan, handed over the documents of the relief goods consisting of tents, blankets and rice bags, to the Indonesian Ambassador Anwar Santoso at a ceremony held at the Society National Headquarters here.
Speaking on the occasion the ambassador thanked the Society for its help and said that his country is in dire need of medicines, medical staff and relief goods.
He said that Pakistan has sent its army to help the Tsunamis victims of Indonesia and the PRCS contribution will be of a great help at this critical juncture.
Anwar Santoso said that the government and people of Indonesia would remember the gesture of the Pakistani people and the Society.
The PRCS Chairman expressing sympathy with the affected people said that keeping in view the worst disaster, the Society has increased its Tsunami relief fund from Rs five million to 10 million. Pakistan Red Cross provincial branches and volunteers on emergency basis are raising funds for the on going relief campaign for the Tsunamis victims all over the country.
He said that the Society has already dispatched relief goods to Sri Lanka. He said that the Society is also in touch with other affected countries about their requirements.
He said that all the PRCS provincial branches have been further directed to step up their relief activities in order to collect more donations for the victims.
On the occasion, Sarah Hashwani of Hashoo Group Industries presented a cheque of Rs one million to PRCS Chairman for Indonesian victims.
On the occasion the children of a school donated their pocket money to the Ambassador. The children from different schools are spear heading the Pakistan Red Crescent Fund raising campaign for the Tsunami victims. Lauding the efforts of the children the Ambassador said that this shows that the entire entire Pakistani nation is standing with us at this difficult time.
