PRCS donates US $ 0.1m for Turkish quake victims
ISLAMABAD Nov 15: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS)
on Tuesday donated US $ one hundred thousands for the victims
of October 23 Earthquake that struck
Eastern Turkey, killing hundreds, injuring more than a
thousand, and leveling dozens of multistory buildings.
PRCS Chairperson Sherry Rehman handed over the donation
cheque to Turkish Ambassador H. E Mustafa Babur Hizlan during
his visit to the PRCS National Headquarters here.
Speaking on the occasion, Sherry Rehman said that the donation
is a small token of what the Pakistani people feel at the
pain of their Turkish brethren at this difficult time and
stand with them in this hour of need.
Rehman said that Turkey is among the first countries to
respond to any disaster in Pakistan be it the Earthquake
of Oct 2005 or floods and expressed her gratitude to Turkish
government and people.
Rehman said that the cooperation between the Pakistan Red
Crescent and Turkish Red Crescent will be further extended
as two national societies that can build better models of
humanitarian relief and respond to natural disasters not
only at the national level but also at the international
level.
The Turkish Ambassador thanked the PRCS Chairperson Sherry
Rehman for generous support in this hour of need and hoped
that the donation will help in mitigating the suffering
of the quake victims.
PRCS Secretary General Dr Rizwan Naseer and Deputy Director
Amjad Pervaiz were also present on the occasion.
