FACTORS AFFECTING PERFORMANCES

Pakistan Red Crescent Society’s Polio Eradication efforts are hindered from functioning at maximum capacity due lack of a proper micro-plan, and appropriate estimates of population size, demographics, area which lead to improper estimation of demand and provisions for planned Polio Campaigns.

The large amount of illegal refugees in NWFP and Baluchistan is a big mass of unestimated and unprotected population which must be approximated and administered the Polio vaccine. The Afghan- Pakistan epidemiological block is the main foci of active Polio transmission. The influx of children under 15, most of them not fully immunized jeopardizes the NIDs impact. There are additional factors; such as the insufficient number of female volunteers (only 45 for NWFP) and insufficient number of mobile teams. For the District of Peshawar only 1400 mobile teams ( 2800 volunteers) are available which is inadequate for our door to door campaigns. Proper social mobilization, post campaign meetings of the District Monitoring Teams (DMTs), mosque announcements (in areas where electronic media is inaccessible to the masses), bus-stand coverage and adequate interest and cooperation by the District Governments could help PRCS go a long way in its fight against Polio.

  • Problem of female Volunteers.
  • Large number of illegal Refugees in NWFP and Baluchistan.
  • Need of new Micro-plan.
  • Need of more mobile teams (Volunteers).
  • Need of proper social mobilization.
  • Need of proper mosque announcements.
  • Proper coverage of Bus Stands.
  • Post campaign meetings of DMTs.
  • Lack of interest by District Governments.
