PRCS starts campaign to boost community
volunteerism
ISLAMABAD Dec 09 : The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS)
has started a campaign “Find a Volunteer Inside You” to further
boost the community volunteerism on successful infusion of spirit of selfless
service to needy people without discrimination of class, color and creed through
youth and volunteers affiliated to its programs and activities at a function
held in connection with World Volunteers Day.
Youth and volunteers from all over the country including male and female from
FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir also participated in the
function. PRCS Managing Body Member and Pakistan Telecommunication
Authority (PTA) former Chairman Mian Muhammad Javed speaking
on the occasion said PRCS believes that young people everywhere have aspirations
and can contribute for the betterment of society and the youth camp aims at
mobilizing a large number of youth volunteers, coordinate activities of youth
- involving organizations, promote good volunteer management practices and
advocate value of volunteerism in Pakistan.
He said the PRCS focuses on successful infusion of spirit of selfless service
to needy people without discrimination of class, color and creed through youth
volunteers affiliated to its programs and activities. Today, the
Pakistan Red Crescent Society is proud to have more than 120,000 volunteers
attached to its programs in various forms. “Youth at PRCS enhances the ability to deliver its
service to vulnerable in an efficient manner by bringing enthusiasm and a
fresh perspective to the activities of the Society,” he added.
PRCS Secretary General Dr Rizwan Naseer said that volunteerism is a backbone
for various activities at the Society and a core value of good citizenship.
Youth volunteers at PRCS on different occasions are given an opportunity to
learn and develop their skills through additional responsibilities. Basic
orientation courses, secondary training and advanced trainings on Red Crescent
doctrine are provided to enhance their performance level.
He said that during the earthquake of October, 8th, Internally Displaced
Persons (IDPs) of Swat and subsequent floods in Khyber-Pakhutnkhawa,
Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan the youth volunteers playedcommendable role in providing assistance and help to the
victims of these disasters and their services are a beacon of light for other
to follow. He said that the PRCS reached to over 8 million victims and that
was only possible after the untiring efforts of these volunteers.
He said that PRCS along with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
has taken up the initiative to train the volunteers so that they can carry
out the operations befittingly.
At the end the volunteers were awarded certificates and medals for rendering
commendable services for the flood victims all over the Pakistan.
The closing ceremony was attended by representatives of IFRC, ICRC,
sister national societies and a large number of people from all walks
of life.
